OXFORD, Ohio - The remaining storm cells of Hurricane Ike were a big factor in Louisville topping Miami 3-1 at Miami Soccer Field.
Stephanie Wilson (Sr. Elma, N.Y.) netted the first goal of her career to open scoring in the 14th minute and gave the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead. Wilson fired a shot across the box and bent the ball into the net with a little help from the 30-50 mile per hour winds.
Mallory Lampson tied the game off a pass from Kelsey Hunyadi and slipped Rachelle Boff (So. Naples, Fla.) on the left side to tie the game in the 24th minute. Giselle Mangal gave the Cardinals the lead in the 56th minute on a rocket shot off a pass from Shannon Smyth. Lindsay Boling put the game out of reach in the 81st minute when she scored off a pass from Caitlin Rehder.
Boff did a solid job between the posts making nine saves and also did a good job clearing the RedHawk zone while battling with the wind. Sara Lund (So. Malmo, Sweden)received her second yellow card of the season in the 25th minute.
The game was delayed at the 57:27 mark of the game after winds from Hurricane Ike knocked down a 50 foot tree that fell in close proximity to the field.
Miami will hit the road next week for their first road game of season as they travel to the west coast to take on Sacramento State Friday Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
