OXFORD, Ohio - Miami Memories, a series of 200 video vignettes about the history of Miami University athletics, premieres Friday, August 1, on www.MURedHawks.com.
The 200 consecutive days of historical features--August 1, 2008 through February 16, 2009--will count down the beginning of the 200th anniversary of the university's Charter Day on February 17. The vignettes will span all 18 current RedHawk sports and also will bridge into the past with features about discontinued sports such as wrestling, men's soccer and men's tennis.
With valuable assistance from sports information director emeritus Dave Young, Miami University archivist Robert Schmidt, and media relations assistant Munene Mwaniki, the scripts are being written by members of Miami's media relations staff, including Angie Renninger, Nate Jorgensen, John Berry and Mike Pearson. Steve Baker, Assistant Athletic Director, Director of Broadcasting and the "Voice of the RedHawks", coordinates the production and narration of the vignettes.
Miami fans will have the opportunity to enjoy flashback audio, video and photographs regarding unforgettable RedHawk events and personalities. From athletic pioneers such as Paul Brown and Weeb Ewbank to recent standouts like Ben Roethlisberger and Wally Szczerbiak, Miami Memories promises to open priceless RedHawk time capsules day after day after day. The series is being introduced now to build anticipation for the university's Bicentennial celebration.
