OXFORD, Ohio - In just four days, www.MURedHawks.com begins one of the most ambitious on-line ventures ever undertaken by a college website. Miami Memories, a series of 200 video vignettes about the history of Miami University athletics, makes its debut on Friday, August 1. The 200 historical features span all 18 current RedHawk sports and also will bridge into the past with vignettes about discontinued sports such as wrestling, men's soccer and men's tennis. Researched and written by members of Miami's media relations staff, the features are produced and narrated by Miami Assistant Athletic Director and Director of Broadcasting Steve Baker, the voice of the RedHawks.
According to Mike Pearson, Miami's Assistant Athletic Director of Communications & Technology, the Miami Memories series is being introduced now to build anticipation for the university's Bicentennial celebration which, on August 1, will begin in 200 days.
"The timing of Miami Memories is strategically synchronized with a 200-day countdown to the beginning of the 200th anniversary of the university's Charter Day--February 17, 2009," he said. "During the Bicentennial year--Feb. 17, 2009 to Feb. 17, 2010--athletic director Brad Bates wants to bring back every living varsity alum to campus to help us celebrate the past, the present and the future of Miami athletics. These daily vignettes will hopefully help generate enthusiasm about making a trip back to their roots in Oxford."
More details about the Miami Memories video features will be announced in the coming days.
