OXFORD, OHIO - Miami's Shalise Lugo held off a Toledo rally in the top of the seventh as the RedHawks beat the Rockets by a score of 2-1, their second win in a row at the Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational.
Lugo ended the game in dramatic fashion by striking out Megan McCauley with Rocket runners at second and third.
Miami scored a single run in the bottom of the first when Halle Popson walked, advanced to third on Meghan Mawn's single, then came home on Breanna Robinson's sacrifice fly.
The RedHawks scored again in the second inning when Alexis Javier singled and came home on a double by Popson.
Toledo scored its only run in the top of the seventh, then had runners at second and third base before Lugo worked out of the jam and won the game for the RedHawks.
Miami had seven hits to go along with its two runs, while Toledo collected just four hits.
Saturday's action begins at 11 a.m. when Penn State faces Toledo. The Nittany Lions then play Michigan State at 1 p.m.
Miami's first action will be at 3 p.m. when the RedHawks host the MSU Spartans. Miami will follow that game up with a 5 p.m contest vs. Youngstown State.
The RedHawks are now 8-12 on the season, while Toledo falls to 5-5.
