CLEVELAND - Senior Paul Ricard and junior Nick DuPuis were named to the Academic All-MAC Men's Swimming and Diving team, the conference office announced today.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
Ricard and DuPuis are both repeat performers from last year's squad. Ricard put together an outstanding performance at the MAC/Sun Belt Championships. Ricard swam on two relay teams, the 200 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay team, both of which finished in sixth place, while also scoring points in three individual events. Ricard placed third in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 4:28.24, while also earning a 16th-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.40. However, in his final event of the championships, Ricard set a MAC/Sun Belt record in the 1,650 freestyle and made a NCAA `B' cut with his time of 15:21.17. Ricard bested the previous record by more than six seconds and he also defeated his nearest competitor by two seconds. Ricard was named the MAC senior swimmer of the year, while also earning First-Team All-MAC honors.
DuPuis had a part of scoring in six events during the MAC/Sun Belt Championships, including participating in four relay events. DuPuis swam on the 200 freestyle relay team that finished in fifth, and the 800 freestyle relay team, the 400 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay team that all earned sixth-place finishes. DuPuis qualified for the `B' final in both the 100 backstroke and the 200 butterfly and he finished in 14th-place in both events.
