BRADENTON, Fla. - Miami University's baseball team used a five-run eighth inning to hold on to a 10-6 win over Lafayette Monday afternoon.
A three-run home run by Lafayette in the second inning gave the Leopards an early cushion and even after Miami tied the game in the second, Lafayette tacked on three more runs in the third inning to re-establish a 6-3 lead.
Freshman Adam Weisenburger belted a solo home run in the fourth inning and junior J.D. Mynhier lined a double down the left field line in the fifth inning to close Lafayette's lead to one run, 6-5.
With the bases loaded in the eighth inning and the RedHawks trailing by one run, senior Evan Armitage gave the RedHawks the lead with a two-out bases clearing double. To add some insurance runs, junior Jordan Petraitis belted his first home run of the season to plate Armitage and give the RedHawks a 10-6 lead heading into the ninth inning.
Miami closed out the Leopards and earned a 10-6 victory.
The RedHawks play Dartmouth at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, before rounding out their Spring Break trip against Bradley at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19.
