ANN ARBOR--Two first-place finishes highlighted Miami's final day at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic on Sunday. According to the Miami coaching staff, it was a very successful opening weekend for the RedHawk skaters.
Miami's senior team, performing their free skate program to Swan Lake, captured first place in the event. The RedHawks compiled a score of 115.0 to win the Senior Free Skate.
Performing their free skate program to music from Mamma Mia, Miami's collegiate team also posted a first-place finish in the Collegiate Free Skate event. The RedHawks were 20 points ahead of their nearest competitors, topping second-place Michigan State and third-place Delaware.
Miami's junior team placed fourth in the Junior Free Skate, performing their program to a Motown medley. The RedHawks, however, were the second-best United States finisher. Chicago Jazz, the defending national champions, won the event with a pair of Canadian teams taking second and third place.
The next time the RedHawks take to the ice will be at the Foot of the Lake Classic/Junior World Qualifier in Fond du Lac, Wisc., Jan. 9-11.
