11/14OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University head women's basketball coach Maria Fantanarosa announced today the signing of three future RedHawks to National Letters of Intent. Courtney Osborn (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), Kristin Judson (Bloomington, Ill./ University), and Kirsten Olowinski (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) have all decided to continue their basketball careers at Miami University.
"I am excited about all three of these student-athletes," said Fantanarosa. "They come from winning high schools and AAU programs."
Osborn was ranked the 19th-best point guard in the class of 2009. At 5-foot-8, she averaged 14.0 points and 3.6 assists per game as a junior at Hamilton Southeastern High School. She has been named all-conference the past three seasons and earned econd team all-state honors in 2008. Osborn participated as a Junior All-Star Core Team Member for the Indiana All-Stars last summer.
"Courtney is an exceptional person, player and student," Fantanarosa said. "She is a true competitor who will outwork her opponent. As a tall point guard, she will cause mismatches because of her 3 point range as well as her aggressive play to the basket. The point guard position is a key spot on our team. She is a great addition to our team."
A 6-foot-1 forward, Judson was named fourth-team sll-state by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association as a junior in 2008. She averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in leading University High School to a 21-8 record last season. Judson was also a unanimous pick for the All-Cornbelt Conference team.
"Kristin is a strong player who has finesse moves, as well as power moves inside," said Fantanarosa. "She is a very smart player who knows the game and anticipates well. She will be a threat inside and out."
Olowinski, another 6-foot-1 forward, helped guide Mercyhurst Prep to a 30-3 record last season and a Pennsylvania State runner-pp finish. She averaged 18.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game during her junior campaign. Olowinski was named to the Class AAA All-State First Team in 2008, first team all-region and District 10 Player of the Year.
"Kirsten comes from a very dominant program in Mercyhurst Prep," Fantanarosa said. "She was an all-state player who is a very good athlete. She is a slasher, a player who is going to be able not only to post up inside, but a player who is going to be able to help us facing the basket."
"This group will continue to add versatility and competitiveness to our program," Fantanarosa added. "Their work ethic will allow them to contribute their freshmen year."
Miami opens the regular season tonight when it travels to Eastern Illinois for an 8 p.m. (EST) game.
