Buffalo, NY - Miami University's Chelsey Bruington won three events and led the RedHawk women's swimming and diving team to a 170-130 Mid-American Conference dual meet victory at Buffalo.
Bruington claimed victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.30), the 500 free (5:02.14), and led off the event-winning 800 freestyle relay team (7:48.76).
Malarie Schmidt won two individual events, taking the 100 backstroke (:57.90) and the 400 IM (4:30.69). Three other RedHawks were double winners. Kasey Carpenter continued her dominance in the 200 backstroke (2:03.51). Allison Stevens captured first place in the 100 free. And Allison Way won the 100 butterfly (:57.76). Carpenter, Stevens and Way combined with Bruington to win the 800 freestyle relay.
The ninth Miami individual event victory was registered by Taylor Koplow in the 200 butterfly (2:11.19).
Miami head coach Dave Jennings said he was pleased with the effort of his team.
"Despite the grueling trip to Buffalo, we came out and competed very well against a good Bulls squad," said Jennings. "Chelsey Bruington was outstanding tonight, as were Malarie Schmidt, Alison Stevens and Allison Way. Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going tomorrow."
Miami improved its dual meet record to 3-1 and swims at Akron on Saturday at 1 p.m.
