Miami's Eugene Harris returned a second-quarter punt 63 yards for a touchdown to cut Northern Illinois' lead to 10-7. It was Harris's second punt return for a touchdown this season (his other was a 44-yarder vs. Charleston Southern) and the third of his two-year career (he had a 56-yarder in the 2007 season opener at Ball State). For the day, Harris returned two punts for 79 yards, an average of 39.5 yards per punt.
JAKE RICHARDSON, the nation's leading punter heading into game (48.1 ypp avg.), averaged 50.4 yards per punt vs. Northern Illinois. Richardson's effort against the Huskies improved his season average to 48.5. Against NIU, he had punts of 73, 55, 46, 38 & 40 yards. He had one punt downed inside the 20 and one touchback. Andre Bratton rushed six times for 42 yards and caught five passes for 38 yards.
Northern Illinois led Miami by a score of 3-0 after the first quarter, continuing the RedHawks' drought in the opening stanza. Cumulatively, through the first six games, Miami has been outscored in the first quarter by a margin of 54-3.
Linebacker Joey Hudson recorded a game-high 10 tackles to boost his team-leading total to 65 through six games.
