OXFORD, Ohio-- - The Miami University field hockey team fell to 1-1 in the MAC with a 3-1 loss to Kent State University at the Miami Turf Field on Saturday afternoon.
Miami (3-5 overall) got its lone goal of the game from Maggie Marcum off a Meredith Corradino assist in the 43rd minute to bring the RedHawks to within one goal with more than 20 minutes remaining in regulation. The Golden Flashes, however, came right back to add an insurance goal by Rachel Miller, her second of the game, a minute later.
The RedHawks outshot the visitors 13-11 and had 16 penalty corners to just two for Kent State, but were unable to capitalize on numerous consecutive corners late in the game. Miami goalie Megan Stengel had five saves, including stopping several break-aways in the second stanza.
Miami took a 1-0 deficit into intermission and went down 2-0 after a Laurie Wilkins goal in the 40th minute.
The RedHawks will have the opportunity to bounce right back as they host the 11th-ranked Bobcats of Ohio University at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday) at the Miami Turf Field.
