OXFORD, Ohio--In the final game of a three-game Mid-American Conference weekend series, Kent State University's baseball team edged Miami University 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at McKie Field at Hayden Park. Miami dropped to 19-15 overall and 8-5 in league play, while Kent State improved to 17-22 on the season and 8-7 in MAC action.
With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Miami's bats heated up when senior first baseman Jeff Carroll singled and then scored off an RBI double to left center by junior third baseman J.D. Mynhier. After freshman right fielder Gary King was walked, sophomore catcher Josh Hula singled to center field to plate Mynhier and put the RedHawks up 2-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, sophomore left fielder Chris Nadeau was walked to get on base before sophomore designated hitter Eric Darlage singled to put runners on first and second. A wild pitch put Miami runners in striking distance on second and third before a powerful triple by Carroll allowed Nadeau and Darlage to score to hand Miami a 4-0 lead.

With two outs, Conor Egan was walked before Chris Tremblay hit a two-RBI double to put the Golden Flashes within two. Doug Sanders then belted a home run over the left centerfield fence to even the score, 4-4.

A leadoff home run over the left field fence by sophomore shortstop Jordan Petraitis moved the RedHawks within one of KSU in the bottom of the seventh inning, 6-5. That, however would be as close as Miami would get as the Golden Flashes picked up the final win of the weekend series.
