Rockets Edge RedHawks, 4-3

OXFORD, Ohio--In a close match, Miami University's women's tennis team was edged by the University of Toledo, 4-3, at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the RedHawks to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in Mid-American Conference action, while the Rockets moved to 11-3 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

Miami's No. 1 doubles tandem of seniors Katrina Lomidze and Linda Jirouskova picked up an 8-4 win, but Toledo's No. 2 doubles team of Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis pulled out an 8-5 win. In a hotly contested battle at No. 3 doubles, the Rockets edged the RedHawks 9-7 to pick up the doubles point.

Freshman Kristen McPhillips earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while junior Victoria Pulido outlasted Jenny Belsky at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 6-7, 10-7 and junior Kelly Douple downed Jessica Azoulay 6-1, 6-1 for Miami's three points of the match.

Toledo picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles in addition to its doubles point to take the match, 4-3.

The RedHawks return to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Eastern Michigan University. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts.
