OXFORD, Ohio - Coming off a season in which he won his second straight Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Year award, Miami University junior Paul Ricard will be competing in the 2007 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which runs March 15-17 and is hosted by the University of Minnesota. Ricard is making his first career appearance at the national meet and is scheduled to compete in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle.
Ricard turned in NCAA "B" cut times in the 500 and 1,650 freestyle at the conference meet and will compete in both events at the national meet. Ricard enters the meet seeded 19th in the 1,650 freestyle (15:11.56) and 26th in the 500 freestyle (4:21.84). The 500 freestyle preliminaries are slated for noon on Friday March 15, with the finals going off at 7 p.m. that evening. The 1,650 freestyle is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.
In a banner junior season, Ricard won three MAC titles in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle and set school records in both the 500 and 1,650 freestyle. Also an academic all-MAC selection who holds a 3.30 GPA in political science, Ricard was the first swimmer since Andrew Keefe in 2004 to win three MAC swimming titles at the same meet. He has been named to the all-MAC first team in each of his first three seasons in the Red and White.
