WINTER GARDEN, Fla.--Former Miami University men's golfer Brad Adamonis ('96) finished in a tie for ninth place at the PGA Tour Qualifying School final stage to earn his PGA Tour card for the 2008 season. He shot rounds of 72-68-70-68-67-69 to finish 18-under par at the Orange Country National Golf Center. Adamonis was one of just 26 players in the final stage field of 166 to earn his PGA Tour card. He spent the 2007 season on the Nationwide Tour where he finished 33rd on the final money list and won the WNB Golf Classic in Midland, Texas.
Adamonis was an All-MAC selection in 1996, helping the Red and White to a Mid-American Conference title and an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional to advance to the NCAA Finals. He becomes just the second Miami golfer to earn his PGA Tour card. Bob Lohr became the first to qualify for the PGA Tour in 1989.
Other Miamians at the final stage included Tee McCabe ('99) and Lee Curry ('01). McCabe tied for 74th with rounds of 70-68-71-71-73-71 to finish at eight-under par. He will be a fully exempt member of the Nationwide Tour for the 2008 season. Curry rebounded from a tough start to tie for 93rd, shooting 76-73-74-65-70-69 to finish five-under par. He will have conditional status on the Nationwide Tour in 2008.
The PGA Tour Qualifying School is held each fall to determine who will compete on the PGA and Nationwide Tours the following year. It is contested over four stages at various sites throughout the country with the final stage being held at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla. More than 1,300 players entered Qualifying School. The top-25 and ties at the final stage earn PGA Tour playing privileges, while the next 50 and ties earn full Nationwide Tour privileges.
