Women's Swimming Opens 34th Season at Home versus Marshall

Miami University's women's swimming and diving team opens its 34th season at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Nixon Aquatic Center against Marshall. Miami comes off a 12-0 2006-07 season, its first perfect season in 30 years, and its sixth consecutive season with an undefeated MAC dual meet record (7-0).
ALL-MAC IS BACK: The RedHawks return 19 letterwinners from a year ago, including four All-MAC performers. Junior Jenn Flaherty and sophomore Karen Frazier earned First-Team All-MAC honors last season, while seniors Kristen Bezier and Kathryn Stephens received Second-Team All-MAC accolades.
THE STREAK: Having finished with a perfect conference dual meet record for five straight seasons, the RedHawks enter the 2007-08 riding a streak of 46 consecutive MAC dual meet wins. Miami has not lost a MAC dual meet since Feb. 3, 2001 when it was defeated by Eastern Michigan.
NEW FACES: The Class of 2011 enters their first season in the Red and White, and Miami expects a number of its newcomers to help its push toward a MAC title. The 14 newcomers are Megan Brunn, Sarah Bullock, Nicole Dumont, Carly Gibson, Jensen Henry, Miranda Kaltenborn, Taylor Koplow, Katherine Reinmann, Nicole Roddenberry, Juliana Schmidt, Leila Sloneker, Katie Swank, Kelsey Vehr and Maria Viverette.
ABOUT MARSHALL: Marshall posted a 5-6 overall record in 2006-07. In the Conference USA Championships last year, the Thundering Herd collected 381.5 points, which was 132.5 points higher than its previous year's total. Senior Michaela Sceli shattered the Marshall records in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke at the 2006-07 conference meet.
FINISH LINE: The RedHawks finished the 2006-07 season ranked No. 4 in the nation in the Division I Mid-Major Poll conducted by CollegeSwimming.com en route to their fifth 10-plus win season in the past six years.
