CLEVELAND - After posting four individual wins in a pair of non-conference dual meets, Miami University junior Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) has been tabbed as the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week. The weekly conference honor is the fourth of Ricard's career, and he is the second Miamian this season to earn the award.
The defending MAC Swimmer of the Year, Ricard notched four victories in non-conference dual meets at Kenyon College and Cleveland State In a two-point loss at Kenyon, Ricard notched top swimming finishes in the 200 butterfly (1:52.21) and 500 freestyle (4:39.02) and was one of only two Miamians to post a pair of individual victories. Ricard followed by notching two of Miami's three individual wins at Cleveland State, sweeping the distance freestyle events. Against the Vikings, Ricard clocked in with a first-place time of 9:22.01 in the 1,000 freestyle and added a top finish in the 500 freestyle (4:33.97).
Ricard is the second straight Miamian to win the conference athlete of the week award, as sophomore Chris Heaton took home the award last week. Ricard has won the award four times in his career, including once as a freshman and twice last season.
With one dual meet remaining on its regular-season schedule, Miami (3-6; 3-0 MAC) puts its unbeaten conference dual meet record on the line when it travels to face Eastern Michigan on Feb. 3. The Eagles have won 46 straight MAC dual meets.
