BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Winning four events and posting 12 top three finishes, the Miami University women's track and field team placed second in a five-team field Saturday afternoon at the Bowling Green Women's Invitational. Paced by senior Lashonda Davis' pair of wins in the 60 meters and the long jump, Miami's 132.50 points trailed only first-place Western Michigan's 180 points. Bowling Green (120), Eastern Michigan (53.50) and IPFW (9) finished third through fifth, respectively.
Davis was one of three Miamians to post individual victories, winning both the 60 meters and long jump for the second straight week. Davis clocked in with a first-place time of 7.53 in the 60 meters and a first-place distance of 19-2 3/4 in the long jump.
Also notching an individual victory was junior Sarah Landau, who finished first in the pole vault with a height of 12-11 1/2. The defending MAC indoor and outdoor champion in the pole vault, Landau's clearance was a provisional qualifying mark and six inches higher than the second-place vault. Miami's final top finish came from junior Kristina Bolterstein, who entered the meet as the nation's top-ranked high jumper. She turned in a first-place height of 5-8, winning her second straight high jump competition.
Four different Miamians posted runner-up finishes in their respective events at Bowling Green, including second-place finishes in the middle distance events from sophomore Betsy Allen in the 400 meters (58.69) and freshman Amanda Mirochna in the 800 meters (2:23.66).
Miami's two additional second-place showings came in the field events, as sophomore Katelyn Kelly posted a second-place height in the high jump (5-6) and senior Doreen Nagawa finished with a runner-up distance of 37-1/2 in the triple jump. Miami's "A" relay team also posted a second-place time of 4:02.85 in the 4x400 meter relay.
A trio of RedHawks notched third-place finishes in their respective events, including junior Andrea Tepe in the 600 meters (1:40.54). Freshman Brittney Bernardoni in the pole vault (11-11 3 /4) and sophomore Alexis Lape in the long jump (18-1) also added third-place finishes.
Miami returns to action next weekend when it travels to the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington. The meet is slated to run Jan. 19-20.
