COLUMBUS, Ohio - Miami University's baseball team had its losing streak extended to four games on Wednesday night with a 9-2 loss to Ohio State. Junior Brandon Hillier and senior Geoff Orr each collected two hits for the RedHawks, who dropped to 9-15 on the year.
Ohio State banged out a pair of hits in the first inning but it was an RBI groundout and a Miami error that led to the Buckeyes taking a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Buckeyes added four runs in the bottom of the third inning of Miami starting pitcher Connor Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio) to take 6-0 lead. OSU collected six hits in the inning with the big blow of the inning coming on a two-RBI double by J.B. Schuck.
Graham was relieved by sophomore Bobby Oberschlake (Felicity, Ohio) with two runners on base and two outs in the fourth but the lefthander retired Schuck on a groundball to second base to end the scoring threat.
Miami responded in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs to cut the Ohio State lead to 6-2. With the bases loaded, senior Geoff Orr (Orland Park, Ill.) singled to left scoring junior Ryne Robinson (Toledo, Ohio) and Brandon Hillier (Hinsdale, Ill.) from third and second base, respectively.
After an Ohio State run in the fifth, a pair of Miami errors led to a pair of Ohio State runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and a 9-2 Buckeye lead. With two outs and a runner on third, first baseman Will Reynolds (Brownsburg, Ind.) mishandled a potential inning ending groundball that led to the first run. The very next batter hit a long fly ball to right center that bounced off the glove of Hillier as he gave chase and allowed Ohio State's ninth run to cross the plate.
Graham was tagged with the loss and dropped to 0-2 on the year, while Dan Barker picked up the win and improved to 3-0. Graham went 3.2 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits.
Miami returns to Mid-American Conference action this weekend as it hosts Eastern Michigan for a three-game series on April 7-9. The first pitch on Friday is slated for 6:30 p.m.
NOTES: FR Brett Roberts made his first collegiate debut pinch-hitting in the ninth inning.
