BUFFALO--Miami University's women's tennis team (10-9; 5-2 Mid-American Conference) was edged in a heated battle for second place in the MAC standings with a 4-3 loss at Buffalo (13-4; 5-2 MAC) on Friday afternoon, which snapped a three-match win streak for the RedHawks.
The Bulls swept all three doubles matches to capture the doubles point, winning 8-3, 8-5 and 8-7 (1) in No. 1-3 doubles, respectively.
UB's Andreea Novaceanu and Miglena Nenova picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, defeating Katrina Lomidze 6-2 and 6-1 and Leda Pesatova 6-4, 6-1, respectively, to quickly push UB's advantage to 3-0.
Remy Swain put the RedHawks' first point on the board with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles over Tina Jacob, but Kristen Ortman iced the match for the Bulls with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win over Kelly Douple at No. 4 singles.
After falling in the first set 4-6, Miami's Linda Jirouskova came back to down Buffalo's Natalie Dean 7-6 (9) and 1-0 (11-9) for Miami's second point, while Victoria Pulido posted a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles to account for the RedHawks' third point.
Miami closes out the regular season tomorrow when it travels to the University of Akron for a 1 p.m. start. The MAC Women's Tennis Tournament takes place in Oxford over April 27-30.
