COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - The National Strength and Conditioning Association announced that six Miami University student-athletes have been honored with its annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award. Lindsay Dunmead (women's soccer), Kate Norris (volleyball), John Busing (football), Andy Greene (ice hockey), Ceith Creekmur (men's track and field) and Taryn Nye (women's track and field) were six of 242 collegiate athletes nationwide to be honored by the NSCA.
Dunmead, an all-MAC defender on the Miami soccer team, was honored after helping the RedHawks to a 9-9 record and an appearance in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals. According to strength coach Matt Cady, "Lindsay is a hard worker in the weight room and on the field. Her hard work and dedication paid off this year, as she played her best soccer as a senior."
Norris, an outside hitter on the volleyball team, also placed on the all-MAC honorable mention team after leading Miami to an 18-13 overall record, including a 9-7 record in the MAC. "Kate has become one of Miami's most explosive and productive players," former Miami strength coach Dan Dalrymple said. "Her dedication in the weight room allowed her to become one of our strongest female athletes."
Busing, an outside linebacker who helped the Miami football team earn a share of the MAC East title for the third consecutive season, also was honored as an all-MAC first team selection this season. According to Dalrymple, "John has been a great worker in our program, and it has resulted in great success on the football field. John entered Miami as a cornerback, and, through hard work and dedication in the training program, developed into an all-MAC performer and team captain."
Greene, an all-Central Collegiate Hockey Association first-team defenseman for the nationally-ranked ice hockey team, also is a Hobey Baker Finalist and helped Miami make its second trip to the NCAA Tournament in the past three seasons. "Andy is one of the best hockey players in school history," Cady said. "He is a two-time captain and a Hobey Baker Finalist, and his hard work set an example for our team."
Creekmur, one of Miami's most versatile men's track athletes, was a silver medalist in the decathlon at last season's MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. According to strength coach James Carsey, "Ceith is a tough and gritty competitor. With hard training, he has raised himself to the next level and is a projected NCAA qualifier this season."
Nye was a bronze-medal winner at this season's MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships and ranks as one of Miami's top high jumpers. "Taryn is a coaches' dream," Carsey said. "Her training has made her into a great athlete, and she should be in contention for top honors in the conference."
This year the NSCA honored 242 athletes from 160 different schools. Miami's six honorees this season bring its total to 48 NCSA All-American Athletes since 1993.
