Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In a game that saw a combined 18 power-play chances, the Miami RedHawks (22-7-4, 19-6-2 CCHA) scored once in each of the first two periods and held on in the third as they downed the Bowling Green Falcons (13-20-2, 8-17-2 CCHA), 2-1 on Thursday night.

Sophomore Ryan Jones (Chatham, Ontario) notched his 17th goal of the season at 8:23 of the first period to give Miami a 1-0 lead. Just as Jones was released from the penalty box, senior Stephen Dennis (Toronto, Ontario) picked up the puck in the Miami zone and moved it to classmate Matt Davis (Rocky River, Ohio), who alertly found Jones streaking down the left-wing boards. Jones took the puck in stride, and from just above the left dot beat Bowling Green netminder Jon Horrell on the short side with a low wrist shot.

Jones doubled the Miami lead with his second of the game that was the result of a five-minute major penalty to Rich Meloche. Sophomore Nathan Davis (Rocky River, Ohio) picked up the puck behind the BGSU net and moved it to classmate Mitch Ganzak (Canton, Mich.) at the right point. After allowing Jones to set up a screen in front of the net, Ganzak fired a wrist shot that was tipped by a BGSU player and deflected off of Jones' shoulder and behind Horrell.

Bowling Green capitalized on a five-on-three power-play at 5:08 of the third period to cut Miami's lead in half. With junior Marty Guerin (Lansing, Mich.) and Stephen Dennis in the penalty box, Mike Falk converted a pass from Jonathan Matsumoto for his 13th goal of the season.

Charlie Effinger was outstanding in goal for Miami as he turned away 24 of the 25 shots sent his way and improved to 10-3-3 on the season. Horrell was equally as impressive, but allowed two of the 30 shots sent his way to find the back of the net and dropped to 9-12-1.

Miami was 1-for-8 on the power play while Bowling Green was 1-for-10.
