Men's Swimming Finishes Fifth in Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's men's swimming and diving team held steady on the final day of the Miami Invitational, finishing in fifth place with 1,048 points. Denison won the men's competition with 1,779.5 points, while Oakland University (1,477) and Wright State University (1,218) rounded out the top three finishers. Emory University placed fourth (1,183) in front of Miami, followed by Cleveland State in sixth (903.5), the University of Cincinnati in seventh (840.5) and Truman State (798.5) in eighth. The University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin, which only brought its divers to the meet, tallied 106 points.
In the 200 medley relay, Miami's team of freshman Matt Grubb, senior Theo Kuczek, junior Andy Amyot and junior Ryan McHugh clocked a time of 1:34.25 to finish in seventh place. Junior Nick DuPuis was the lone RedHawk in the "A" Finals of the 200 backstroke. DuPuis finished in a time of 1:55.62 to finish place ninth.
Sophomore Scott DuCharme paced Miami in the "B" Finals of the 500 freestyle, placing 14th in a time of 4:45.96. In the "B" Finals of the 100 butterfly, Amyot posted a 10th-place finish in a time of 50.90 to lead the RedHawks.
Senior Griffin Marshall clocked a time of 2:07.29 in the 200 breaststroke to finish in eighth place for the RedHawks. In the 100 freestyle, McHugh paced the Red and White with a seventh-place finish in a time of 46.36.
In the "B" finals of the 200 IM, sophomore Chase Mortimer finished in 15th place in a time of 1:57.37.
Posting a score of 276.55 and edging his nearest competition by 2.25 points, sophomore diver Chris Heaton captured the 3-meter diving event for the RedHawks, while senior Eric Teske placed eighth with a score of 226.60. For Heaton, it was asweep of the 1- and 3-meter boards at the Miami Invitational.
Closing out the meet was Miami's "A" relay team of Zach Siegel, Kuczek, junior Paul Ricard and McHugh placed fifth in the 400 freestyle relay, touching the wall with a time of 3:07.05. Miami's "B" relay team also finished 10th in the event.
Miami is off from competition until 2007 when it travels to Cincinnati on Jan. 16.
