The Miami University men's and women's diving teams return to action this weekend when they travel to the Indiana Invitational Nov. 17-18 in Bloomington, Ind. Only Miami's divers are traveling to the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center for the two-day meet, including top men's diver Chris Heaton and top women's diver Melissa Roemmele.
On the men's side, the RedHawks are led by Heaton, the reigning Mid-American Conference Diver of the Year. Through four meets this season, the sophomore has reset the 3-meter varsity diving record on two occasions, with his most recent record-breaking performance coming against Western Kentucky (Nov. 4). Against the Hilltoppers, Heaton posted a 3-meter score of 360.00, besting his own school record by nearly 16 points. Heaton also was tabbed as the MAC Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week on Nov. 7.
Other notable divers for the men's team include senior Eric Teske and junior Ryan Reinke. During the 2006 season, Teske has posted top scores of 260.70 (1-meter) and 266.95 (3-meter), while Reinke has tallied top scores of 222.52 (1-meter) and 241.35 (3-meter). For Reinke, his season-best tally of 241.35 on the 3-meter board also was a career-best mark.
On the women's side, Roemmele is coming off a sweep of the boards against Wright State where she posted first-place scores on the 1-meter (241.87) and 3-meter (280.20) boards. Roemmele's 3-meter score also was the highest Miami 3-meter diving score this season. On the 1-meter board, freshman Kelsey Anagnos owns Miami's top score of the season (265.12), and she swept the boards at her first collegiate meet when Miami downed Akron (Oct. 27).
Additionally, sophomore Alex Enriquez had a strong showing on the 3-meter board in Miami's dual meet win over defending MAC Champion Eastern Michigan, as she finished second with a score of 267.53. Other notable women's divers who have competed for Miami this season include freshman Rachel Smith, sophomore Erin Jones and senior Katie Meister.
After the divers compete at Indiana, Miami has 12 days off until both the swimmers and divers host the 13th Annual Miami Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
