LEXINGTON, Ky. - After battling to a scoreless draw for the first 81 minutes, a pair of Wildcat goals scored 63 seconds apart helped the University of Kentucky defeat Miami University, 2-0, on Saturday at the UK Soccer Complex. Senior keeper Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) posted four first-half saves, moving her up to first place on the Miami career saves list with 122, but the RedHawks (0-2-0) were unable to find the back of the net against Kentucky (2-0-1).
Sarah Gaunt scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Nicola Holdsworth at 81:12, and Holdsworth added an unassisted goal at 82:15 to give the Wildcats a two-goal cushion.
Miami managed two shots, including one by senior captain Lindsay Dunmead (Northville, Mich./Northville), but the Wildcats held the edge in both shots (20-2) and corner kicks (13-3) in the contest.
After two consecutive road games to open the 2005 season, the RedHawks will return to the familiar confines of the Miami Soccer Field for their home-opening game against the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday, Sept. 11.
