RedHawks Fall To Golden Flashes, 4-1, in MAC Action

Sept. 25, 2005

Box Score

KENT, Ohio. - In the last of four-consecutive road matches, the Miami University women's soccer team (3-4-0, 1-1 MAC) was unable to overcome three goals in the first 17 minutes by the Kent State Golden Flashes (4-5-1, 1-1 MAC), the preseason Mid-American Conference favorite, as they fell, 4-1, at the Kent State Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon. The RedHawks dug themselves an early hole as they allowed scores in the 9th, 11th and 17th minutes while a stingy Kent State defense held Miami to only a single goal by freshman Kristin Smith (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) in the 39th minute.

Smith's score at the 38:07 mark was the first goal of her collegiate career, and it came of an assist from fellow freshman Stephanie Wilson (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois). Wilson also tallied her first collegiate point with the assist.

After shutting out three of its last four opponents, Miami's usually steady defense allowed four goals for the first time since a 4-3 double-overtime win over Western Michigan on Sept. 19, 2004. Miami's offense held the edge in corner kicks, 5-3, but was outshot 13-10 in the contest.

The RedHawks return to Oxford after playing six of their first seven games on the road when they face the Toledo Rockets in their MAC home opener on Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m
