Box Score

OXFORD, Ohio. - Anchored by a solid defensive effort and the steady play of senior goalkeeper Kerri Orr (San Diego, Calif./Serra), the Miami University field hockey team registered their first shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the Davidson Wildcats on Sunday afternoon. Orr had six saves in the cage while the RedHawks (3-4) made two first-half goals stand as they won their second-consecutive home game at Miami Turf Field.

Miami's offense came out firing against the Wildcats as it tallied 25 shots in the game, 12 more than its previous season high, and it got on the board early on an unassisted goal at 3:42 from sophomore Alyssa Nye (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken). After being denied by the Davidson keeper on her initial shot attempt, Nye banged home her own rebound to give the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage.

Nearly 14 minutes later, Miami scored its second goal at 17:04 off a penalty corner. Nye set up the goal with a pass from the nearside corner to senior Keri von Kalinowski (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch), and she redirected the pass to sophomore Taylor Florence (Louisville, Ky./Assumption). Florence then ripped a shot past the Davidson keeper for her third goal of the season.

For the second-straight game, the RedHawks held the advantage in both shots (25-14) and penalty corners (10-4).

Riding the momentum of its two-game winning streak, Miami plays its Mid-American Conference opener at Miami Turf Field on Friday, Sept. 23 against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
