LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A congratulations goes out to the Miami University Dance Team for their outstanding performance and success at camp in early August. The Miami Dance Team again made a mark at this summer's NDA College Dance Camp held at the University of Louisville. Each summer the dance team attends camp to learn new choreography, compete against other dance teams, and earn a bid to the national competition.
The dance team came home from camp on Aug. 7 with even more success than in previous years. The dance team received a bid to the NDA National Competition in Daytona Beach, Florida for the third year in a row and placed third overall in the Camp Competition. The dance team was also honored with the Most Collegiate award. This award is voted on by all other teams attending camp, and is given to the dance team that best represents their university as a model program. Above all else, the team is most excited with this award because it demonstrates the strong reputation that Miami has established amongst other schools.
Several individual dancers received accolades as well. Juniors Melissa Durham and Miranda McKirnan and senior Melissa Kuess were asked to audition for NDA Staff. Melissa Kuess was also one of only five total dancers named NDA All-American. The team is eager for the season to get further underway and will be submitting a video in December to try to qualify for a paid bid to Nationals for the second year in a row.
The dance team will be holding an audition in September for the 2005-06 team to fill remaining spots. If interested in auditioning for the dance team, please attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. in Millett Hall.
