OXFORD, Ohio - Miami junior swimmer Laura Armbruster (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) was announced Thursday as one of 10 student-athletes across 13 sports to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV First Team in the at-large Division I University category. A two-time First-Team All-Mid-American Conference performer, Armbruster carries a 3.95 grade-point average as a zoology major.
District IV covers Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. The team consists of two swimmers, three tennis players, two gymnasts, a rower, a golfer and a field hockey player and was voted on by sports information directors across the district.
The CoSIDA honor is the first for Armbruster, who has been named to the Academic All-MAC team twice in her career. At this year's MAC Championships, which Miami won for the fourth straight year, Armbruster medaled in 400 IM--taking second--and in the 200 Breast--finishing third--giving her five MAC medals over the last two conference meets. She helped lead Miami to its fourth straight undefeated season in MAC dual meets, winning seven of the 19 races in which she competed and never finished lower than fifth.
The RedHawks carry their 32-meet MAC win streak into the 2006 season and look for their 16th conference team title in Armbruster's senior campaign. Armbruster is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, to be announced June 16.
