Miami's Greene Earns CCHA Best Offensive Defensiveman Award

DETROIT, Mich. - Miami University's Andy Greene (Trenton, Mich.) was awarded the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Best Offensive Defensiveman Award at the annual CCHA Awards held at Detroit's historic Fox Theatre on Wednesday, March 16. The award was voted on by the league's 12 head coaches. The junior joins Joe Cook (1997-98) and Dan Boyle (1992-93) as the only other RedHawks to earn the prestigious award.
Greene, who finished the season ranked among the top five in the nation in scoring by defensemen, tallied a career-high 34 points on seven goals and a career-high 27 assists. He registered a point in 24 of Miami's 38 games including 10 multi-point games. He registered a career-high five points versus Lake Superior State on two goals a a trio of assists as the RedHawks downed the Lakers 8-3 on Feb. 12.
The two-time All-CCHA First-Team selection was one of only four RedHawks to appear in all 38 games this season. He finished the season tied for third in the CCHA in power-play points with 23 and led all other CCHA defensemen in overall scoring by a five-point margin.
Serving as Miami's captain, he quarterbacked a power-play unit that finished the season ranked fourth in the CCHA (56-278, .201) and was a key member of the penalty-killing unit that was second-best in the league (236-274, .861). His 34 points were the second-highest total at Miami this year, behind Matt Christie's (Ajax, Ontario) 36 points.
The RedHawks finished the season with a 15-18-5 overall record and completed regular season CCHA play with a record of 11-13-4, earning them the No. 7 seed in the CCHA Tournament. Miami was swept in a best-of-three series at No. 6 Michigan State last weekend.
