OXFORD, Ohio - Senior swimmer Christen Fout (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hawken), already the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, has been named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for her two wins and a second-place finish at the IUPUI House of Champions meet last weekend. The award is voted on by the Faculty Athletic Representatives from MAC institutions and given to a female and a male athlete across all sports this week.
Fout is the second Miami woman to win the scholar-athlete award this year, as soccer player Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington) was a two-time winner earlier this year. She carries a 3.58 GPA as a zoology major.
In her first race on Thursday, Fout finished second in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:12.55, which was 1.15 seconds behind race winner Brittany Wininger of Eastern Illinois. Friday, she won the 400 IM in 4:40.80, .41 seconds ahead of EIU's Claire Garvey. Saturday, Fout won the 200 Fly in a personal best 2:10.13, .16 seconds better than IUPUI's Kelly Miller.
Fout and the RedHawks travel to the MAC Championships Thursday through Saturday at Ohio University. The team seeks its fourth straight conference championship, which would make Fout and her fellow seniors the fifth perfect class in Miami women's swimming and diving history.
