INDIANAPOLIS - Miami University's women's tennis team picked up its second straight win Sunday afternoon at Butler University, battling past the Bulldogs, 7-0, and improving to 5-2 on the season with an impressive showing.
The RedHawks picked up the doubles point with a hard-fought 9-7 win by Katrina Lomidze and Linda Jirouskova at No. 1 doubles and an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles by Nancy Wiegand and Victoria Pulido. Miami nearly swept the doubles point, but the No. 2 duo of Leda Pesatova and Remy Swain came up short in a tough 9-8 loss, falling 7-1 in the tiebreaker.
Miami quickly clinched the win with straight-set singles wins by Katrina Lomidze at No. 2 singles, Kelly Douple at No. 3 singles, Leda Pesatova at No. 5 singles and Remy Swain at No. 6 singles. The remaining singles matches would both belong to Miami in three sets, led by Linda Jirouskova's grueling 7-6 (16-14), 1-6, 7-5 defeat of Butler's Alaina Griffin at No. 1 singles. Freshmen Victoria Pulido also won in three sets, battling to a 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
The RedHawks, who have won five of their past six dual matches, return to action next Sunday when they host Wright State at Riverside Racquet Club in Hamilton.
