CLEVELAND - In the Mid-American Conference preseason poll as voted on by the league's coaches, the Miami University women's swimming and diving team was picked to finish first and defend their MAC title.
Head coach Dave Jennings returns 22 returning letterwinners and five all-conference swimmers from last season's championship squad, as Miami will be attempting to win five-consecutive MAC Championships for the second time in school history. Miami has won each of the last four conference titles, including the program's 15th overall crown last season.
For the 2005-06 season, the RedHawks return an experienced squad as they boast a 20-member junior/senior class led by All-MAC First Team honorees Laura Armbruster (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton), Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa). The RedHawks' seven seniors are attempting to become the sixth perfect senior class in Miami history and win every MAC title for which they competed. Five previous classes--1986, 1987, 1988, 1999 and 2005--have won four MAC titles in a row.
The RedHawks (2-0, 2-0 MAC) welcome Marshall and Illinois to the Nixon Aquatic Center for their home-opening meet tonight at 4 p.m. Miami also seeks to extended its streak of consecutive MAC dual-meet wins to 35 when they face Ball State in Muncie, Ind., on Nov. 5.
