COLUMBUS, Ohio - Facing nationally-ranked Ohio State University, the Miami University men's swimming and diving team (2-1, 1-0 MAC) dropped their first dual meet of the season as the No. 20 Buckeyes handed the RedHawks a 136-97 loss.
Ohio State started strong as it tallied wins in the first nine events of the meet, and it posted two of the top three finishers in six of the first seven events.
Miami's first win of the meet came in the 10th event when junior Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) notched a first-place finish in the 500 free. In a record-setting performance, Ricard - the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week for the week of Nov. 1 - set a new McCorkle Aquatic Center record as he clocked in at 4:32.91. His mark bested the old pool record by nearly 11 seconds.
The RedHawks notched wins in two of the final three events, the 100 breast and 200 freestyle relay, but they could not make up the point difference in their first loss of the year.
Miami has a week off before they travel to Muncie, Ind., to face the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday, Nov. 12. Seeking their second MAC win of the season, the RedHawks and Cardinals hit the pool at 4 p.m
