CLEVELAND - In the Mid-American Conference preseason poll as voted on by the league's coaches, the Miami University men's swimming and diving team was picked to finish second behind the defending champion Eastern Michigan Eagles.
Head coach Pete Lindsay returns 17 letterwinners and seven all-MAC swimmers from last season's squad, and that group will be seeking Miami's seventh overall MAC title. The RedHawks have finished as the conference runner-up in each of the last two seasons.
Miami welcomes back an experienced squad this season as it boasts a 14-member junior/senior class led by All-MAC First Team honoree Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South). In addition to Robson, All-MAC Second Team performers Pat Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Frances DeSales), Michael Donohoe (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson), Justin Marcy (Dayton Beach, Fla./Fairfield), Griffin Marshall (Dallas Texas, Jesuit College Prep) and Brian O'Rourke (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves) all return for the 2005-06 season to help Miami attempt to dethrone Eastern Michigan.
The reigning Mid-American Conference Coaches of the Year both reside in Oxford for the 2005-06 season as Lindsay and head diving coach Todd Spohn both won the MAC Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year awards, respectively, after Miami's second-place finish at last year's conference meet.
Miami (2-0, 1-0 MAC) won a pair of dual meets on the season's opening weekend, and it attempts to take down Big Ten foe Ohio State when they visit the No. 20 Buckeyes tonight at 6 p.m.
