CLEVELAND - After posting wins in three events and helping the RedHawks to a pair of dual meet wins on the season's opening weekend, Miami University junior Paul Ricard was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week.
In the RedHawks 125.5-117.7 win over the Cleveland State Vikings on Oct. 28, Ricard tallied wins in the 500 freestyle (4:34.58) and 1000 freestyle (9:20.44), where he finished more than 13 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Ricard was the only Miami swimmer to win multiple events at the meet.
Ricard followed by capturing the 500 free (4:41.73) on Oct. 29 in Miami's MAC opener, a 144-95 win against Buffalo. In the 500 free, he clocked in nearly five seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer.
The swimmer of the week award is the second in Ricard's career as he also won the award as a freshman on Nov. 24, 2003. Ricard also was named to the All-MAC First Team for the 2003-04 season.
