RedHawks Improve to 6-2 with Defeats of Kenyon and Cincinnati: It wasn't easy, but the RedHawk men's swimming and diving team recorded wins over Kenyon College and the University of Cincinnati on Friday afternoon by three over the Bearcats (120-117) and nine over the Lords (123-114). Miami did so without winning any of the 11 swimming events, but instead racking up enough second-through-sixth place finishes to earn the victory. Senior Peter Donohue won both diving competitions for the first time this season in the all-Miami events. It was the fourth one-meter win of the year and first three-meter triumph for the defending MAC one-meter titlist.
One Last Non-League Meet: Miami has earned a 4-2 record this season against non-MAC teams in dual meets and looks to finish at 5-2 with the Vikings of Cleveland State coming to the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon. CSU is the second Horizon League school that Miami has faced this year after falling to Wright State at the Nixon Center on Nov. 19. Cleveland State enters at 6-2 overall and 0-1 against MAC schools, having lost to Eastern Michigan in November. This is the second trip of the season for CSU to Oxford, after the Vikings finished third, right behind Miami, at the Miami Invitational in December. In CSU's tri-meet win over Xavier and Duquesne, senior Luke Wilkens was the only CSU swimmer to win two events, taking the 200 Free (1:42.80) and 200 Fly (1:53.97).
STORYLINES:
1. Last Meet Before Back-to-the-MAC: It has been over two months since Miami's last MAC contest, a one-point victory at Ball State on Nov. 13, but the conference schedule resumes Jan. 28 against Ohio. The RedHawks look to move to 3-0 in the MAC against the Bobcats, one week before the showdown at Eastern Michigan.
2. Enjoy It While It Lasts: The time for Miami's three seniors at the Nixon Aquatic Center is running short, as John Grubb, Peter Donohue and Jason Krasula have their penultimate dual meet this weekend before being honored on Jan. 28 against Ohio. However, the three still have the MAC Championship meet in their home pool.
