OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami women's tennis team narrowly missed winning its sixth-straight Mid-American Conference match on Saturday afternoon as it fell, 4-3, to a tough visting Western Michigan Broncos squad. The RedHawks have earned the No. 4 seed for next weekend's MAC Tournament being held at Northern Illinois.
The RedHawks received two huge single's victories from freshman Linda Jirouskova and senior Megan Zimpfer at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Jirouskova knocked off WMU's Carrie Jeanmaire in three sets after dropping the first frame, 6-0, but came back with two 6-4 set wins to take the match. Continuing her solid play at No. 3 singles was Zimpfer who toppled Reedhina Parekh in three sets, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4.
Winning Miami's final point of the afternoon was sophomore Remy Swain at No. 5 singles. Swain played a spectacular match to defeat Western Michigan's Malena Remynse in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4.
The RedHawks play next on Friday, April 22, against the No. 5 seed in the conference tourney, Ball State.
