OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami RedHawks used a stellar outing from sophomore lefthander Graham Taylor and the 14th home run of year from junior first baseman Mike Ferris to take its second straight against Ohio University and fourth in a row overall at McKie Field at Hayden Park.
Taylor posted his best outing of the season for Miami after a slow start in the first inning where he allowed walk and a single to open up the game. From there though Taylor set down 22 of the next 26 batters he faced over eight innings, striking out six and walking just one. The Bobcats picked up their only run of the game off Taylor in the ninth as Ohio scratched out a run on three hits. Sophomore Matt Long who replaced Taylor with no outs in the ninth picked up his third save of the season.
Offensively the RedHawks pieced together a run in the fourth and one in the eight. In the fourth following a Sam Sellery walk, junior Paul Frietch moved Sellery over to third on a single to right. From there junior second baseman Geoff Orr scored Sellery with his first sacrifice fly of the year. What turned out to be a big insurance run came off the bat of Ferris in the bottom of the eighth as he socked an opposite field homer,
The RedHawks (15-8, 2-0 MAC) close out the MAC opening weekend tomorrow at Hayden Park as the RedHawks and Bobcats (4-15, 0-2 MAC) play the finale of the three game set. First pitch is 1 p.m.
