OXFORD, Ohio - Three members of Miami University's women's swimming & diving team were named to the Mid-American Conference's All-Academic Team, the league office announced today. Among the honorees were first-team all-MAC selections Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and Laura Armbruster (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton), as well as Christel Frantz (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake).
A senior, Miranda is the only repeat selection among the trio. At last weekend's MAC Championships, she successfully defended titles in the 500 and 1650 freestyle events, giving her seven individual championships in her career. In her four years at Miami, Miranda helped the RedHawks to three MAC Championships, while winning the 1650 free each year and the 500 free in each of the last three seasons. A marketing major, she has been successful out of the pool amassing a 3.38 GPA.
Armbruster, a sophomore zoology major, boasts the highest GPA of the trio, and second-highest of all honorees, with a 3.91 mark. Joining Miranda on the all-MAC first team, Armbruster won the 100 breaststroke last weekend for her first career MAC title. She also posted a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley after taking third in the 200 IM.
Frantz, a junior sprinter, also is a zoology major and carries a 3.71 GPA. At the MAC Championships, Frantz swam with three Miami relays, taking second twice and third once. In the 50 freestyle, she scored points for the RedHawks, taking sixth.
This past weekend, the trio helped Miami to its third straight MAC Championship and unprecedented 14th overall. Miranda and Armbruster were joined on the all-MAC first team by a pair of teammates, while three other RedHawks earned second-team nods.
