OXFORD, Ohio - Senior Andrew Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) won two events in his final home meet, but it wasn't enough, as Miami University's men's swimming & diving team dropped its conference finale on Senior Day to Eastern Michigan, 147-96, at the Nixon Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.
Keefe won both the 200 and 100 freestyle events to lead the RedHawks. In the 200 free, he touched the wall in 1:41.34 to claim the top spot. Five events later, Keefe came back and paced the field in the 100 free, posting a time of 45.89.
Freshmen Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) and Griffin Marshall (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) did their best to send the seniors out on top, winning their respective events. In the 1000 free, Ricard distanced himself from the field early and crusied to victory in a time of 9:27.79. Marshall was able to etch out a hard-fought victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:04.98.
Junior Peter Donohue (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) picked up victories in both diving events. From the one-meter board he was able to coast to victory with 302.77 points, almost 42 points ahead of second place (260.92). The field was tighter in the three-meter event, but it was Donohue who still came out on top with a score of 296.03.
Miami concludes its regular season in second in the MAC, and takes a week off before the Midwest Conference Championships, Feb. 19-21, in Indianapolis. The MCC is a tune-up for the MAC Championships, March 4-6, in Ypsilanti, Mich.
