RedHawks Win 11th Straight, Rout Ohio

OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) won two events and swam with a first-place relay to lead Miami University's women's swimming & diving team to its 24th consecutive MAC win, and 11th overall, in a 189-109 rout of state-rival Ohio, Friday evening in Oxford.
The meet was a battle of unbeaten league teams, as both the RedHawks (11-1, 7-0 MAC) and Bobcats (8-2, 6-1 MAC) entered the day 6-0 in the MAC and tied for first place. The victory is Miami's 11th straight since a season-opening loss to Purdue, and 24th consecutive MAC win since the 2000-01 season.
Forster topped the field in both the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly, while also swimming with the 400 medley relay. The school-record holder in the event, she hit the wall in the 500 free in 5:00.53 and put up a time of 2:05.27 in the 200 fly. Forster swam the 400 medley relay with junior Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and sophomores Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Christel Frantz (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) as the quartet completed in the distance in 3:53.49.
Lamb and Unger each won individual events as well. Lamb was victorious in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.62, while taking second in the 200 back behind redshirt freshman Maggi Bulla's (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) time of 2:06.23. The RedHawks finished one through four in the 100 breaststroke, led by Unger's 1:05.09 time. Sophomore Laura Armbruster (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) took second, as freshman Sarah Baumert (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and senior Casey Mangano (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) rounded out the top four, respectively. Armbruster went on to win the 100 butterfly, finishing in 58.47.
Sophomore Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and senior Heidi Willemssen (Prior Lake, Minn./Lakeville) took the top two spots in both the one- and three-meter diving. Eberst won the three-meter event with 278.77 points, as Willemssen was close behind with 259.95. From the one-meter board, Willemssen was the top-scorer with a score of 265.65, while Eberst finished second with 234.90.
Senior Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and freshman Ashley Seymour (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) also won events for Miami. Miranda paced the 1000 free crowd in 10:19.16, while Seymour was victorious in the 200 breast in a time of 2:23.02.
The Red and White shoots for its third consecutive undefeated league season when Marshall comes to town on Saturday, Feb. 7. The RedHawks and Thundering Herd hit the pool at 4 p.m., following the Miami men's meet with Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m.
