HAMILTON, Ohio - A 7-0 decision on Friday afternoon at the Riverside Racquet Club ran the Miami women's tennis team all-time record to a perfect 30-0 against the visiting Toledo Rockets. All but one of the RedHawk's single's matches were decided in straight sets and they won the double's point for the seventh straight match.
Miami gained the point in the double's competition with a pair victories from its No. 2 and No. 3 double's units. This marks the sixth straight match that the RedHawks have won the point in doubles.
Freshman Katrina Lomidze (Pompano Beach, Fla.) battled against Toledo's No.1, Myriam Cueva, in a match that was decided by a super tiebreaker. Lomidze distanced herself from Cueva in the tiebreaker, 10-5, to take the match after dropping the first set, 6-3. No. 2 singles belonged to freshman Linda Jirouskova (Milevsko, Czech Republic) who won a hard-fought first set over UT's Eunice Paravicini, 7-5, but then breezed through the second set, 6-2, when Paravicini was suffering from an arm injury.
Winning the No. 3 singles' match, and quickest match of the day award, was senior Megan Zimpfer (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) over UT's Monica Ribero, 6-1 and 6-1. The victory improves Zimpfer's singles' record to a team-best 7-3, which ties her with sophomore Maura Trauernicht (Omaha, Neb.), who won her No. 6 single's match, 6-0 and 6-0.
Racking up the final two points of the day for the RedHawks were junior Nancy Wiegand (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) and sophomore Remy Swain (Louisville, Ky.). Wiegand took down the Rockets' No. 4 single's competitor, Jen Meister, by a 6-1 and 6-3 count, while Swain won her No. 5 single's match, 6-0 and 6-2, against UT's Daniella Moran.
Miami's improves its record to 6-4 on the season and starts its conference season with a big win to go to 1-0 in the MAC.
