Feb. 14, 2004

Box Score

RALEIGH, NC - Junior Jackie Poggendorf (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain) scattered six hits and senior Jacque Molinaro (Follansbee, W.Va./Brooke) hit a solo home run to lead Miami University's softball team to a 3-0 victory over Campbell on day two of the Triangle Classic. With the win, the RedHawks advance to the quarterfinals of the Silver Bracket against MAC-rival Kent State.

Poggendorf didn't allow a Camel runner to reach third base on the day, finishing with four strikeouts and just one walk. On offense, Molinaro broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the second with a home run to center field to lead off the inning against Campbell starter Lexi Myers.

The score remained at 1-0 until the RedHawks broke through again in the fourth inning. Sophomore Bianca Paz (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces) reached on an infield single, then stole second. Two batters later, senior Jessica Zogaib (Temperence, Mich./Bedford) scored Paz with a run-scoring single to left field.

Senior Jamie Carey (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) scored the final run of the afternoon for the Red and White, crossing the plate on a ground rule double by freshman Leslie Macedo (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) in the fifth. The RBI is Macedo's team-leading third, after the freshman homered in the eighth inning on Friday.

Carey led the RedHawk offense with a pair of bunt singles that stopped within a foot of home plate each time. Making her collegiate debut, Paz reached base in all three at-bats, adding a pair of walks to her fourth-inning single.

The Red and White and Golden Flashes were scheduled to start their quarterfinal game following KSU's defeat of North Carolina State, but had the start of action postponed until Sunday by rain. Check back with MURedHawks.com for Miami's schedule on the final day of the Triangle Classic.
