RedHawks Drop 2-1 Decision to Ferris State

Dec. 11, 2004

Box Score

OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Brandon Crawford-West stopped a season-high 43 shots but the RedHawks (7-9-2, 3-7-2 CCHA) were unable to generate enough offense to overcome a pair of third period Ferris State (6-10-2, 3-7-2 CCHA) goals as the Bulldogs knocked off Miami by a score of 2-1 at Goggin Ice Arena.

Freshman Nathan Davis put the Red and White out in front at the 3:23 mark of the second period when he and classmate Ryan Jones broke free on a two-on-one to make the score 1-0. The play started when junior Andy Greene blocked a shot from the point and directed the puck to Jones who fed Davis coming down the left wing. Crawford-West turned away 16 shots in the second period to keep Miami in the lead after 40 minutes.

The Bulldogs evened the score just 4:55 into the third on an Adam Welch slapshot from the point after a faceoff to the right of the Miami net.

With 2:13 remaining in the third, Ferris State's Matt Verdone banged home a rebound to put the Bulldogs up 2-1. The RedHawks played the final 1:07 with the goalie pulled in favor of an extra-attacker but were unable to solve Derek MacIntyre, who made 34 saves to pick up his second victory of the season against three losses.

Each team had six chances with the man-advantage but neither side was able to convert.

The RedHawks will take a break over the holidays but will return to action on December 29-30 at the Ohio Hockey Classic at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
