OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's women's swimming team took on two more opponents Saturday while 11 of the top RedHawk swimmers were at the Indiana Invitational battling some of the best in the Midwest. Back in Oxford, the Red and White bested IUPUI, 217-75, and Xavier, 179-112.
It was a record-setting day for junior diver Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who broke the Miami and Nixon Aquatic Center records by earning 515.92 points in the three-meter dive and qualifying for the NCAA zone diving meet next spring. She also won the one-meter competition with 267.07 points.
A team of juniors Ellen Koch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and Randi Webber (Hamilton, Ohio/Lakota West), freshman Kristen Bezier (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) and senior Morgan Kautz (Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson) won the 200 Medley Relay in 1:51.00, two-and-a-half seconds better than a second-place Xavier team. Sophomore Amber Kerek (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) followed with a win in the 1000 Free in 10:43.80, more than 11 seconds better than Dana Hunter from Xavier.
Miami kept that momentum going, winning the first five events. Senior Christel Frantz (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) won the 200 Free in 1:56.32 and Koch followed with a win in 1:01.11 in the 100 Back. Bezier's win in the 100 Breast in 1:07.31 completed the string.
But the break in first-place finishes was only temporary, as Frantz won the 50 Free in 24.65. Two swimming events later, Katie Miles (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) won the 200 Back in 2:12.13, and Kerek (500 Free, 5:13.32) and Bezier (200 IM, 2:12.01) each earned their second individual event wins to close the solo races. Miami's Kautz, Frantz, sophomore Tyler Smith (Milledgeville, Ga./Baldwin) and senior Andrea Hocevar (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Hawken) won the 200 Free Relay in 1:39.63, though the RedHawks ceded the points in the event.
Miami has Thanksgiving weekend off, and resumes competition with the Miami Invitational, Dec. 3-5 at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
