OXFORD, Ohio - Five RedHawks won multiple events as Miami University women's swimming & diving team routed Eastern Michigan, 205-87, Saturday afternoon at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. Miami (9-1, 5-0 MAC) exhibitioned its last two events, after winning the first 14 of the afternoon, in winning the team's 22nd consecutive MAC dual meet.
Sophmore Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) led the way, topping the field in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events, while also teaming with the first-place 200 medley relay. In the 50 free, Unger headed a contingent of four RedHawks in the top four positions, while teammates took second and third behind her in the 100 free. Joining Unger on the 200 medley relay was junior Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and sophomores Cortney Dice (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) and Christel Frantz (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake). Lamb was also victorious in the 100 backstroke, as Dice hit the wall first in the 200 butterfly.
Redshirt freshman Maggi Bulla (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) took first place in both the 200 free and backstroke for Miami, hitting the wall in the 200 free just ahead of teammate Michelle Reynolds (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming). Reynolds won an event of her own, pacing the field in the 500 free.
Rounding out the Red and White's mutiple-event winners was sophomore Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) and freshman Sarah Baumert (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). In the 1000 free, Miami dominated the top four places headed by Forster, who also won the 100 fly. Baumert swept both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, including the 200 where she hit the wall ahead of two RedHawk teammates.
In the two diving events, sophomore Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) swept both the one-meter and three-meter events and pushed her overall winning streak to 14 events. Eberst has not finished lower than first since Oct. 31, and has won 15 of her last 16 diving events from either board.
The RedHawks return to action next weekend, Jan. 30, at Bowling Green against the Falcons. The meet kicks off at 5 p.m. as Miami goes for its 23rd straight MAC win and 10th overall.
