WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team defeated Miami, 7-0, this evening at the Lafayette Sports Center. The RedHawks play again next Sunday, Feb. 1, against Butler.
The Boilermakers took the doubles point 8-6, 6-8, 8-0 and won all six singles matches in straight sets. Winning Miami's lone match was the No. 2 double's tandem of senior Megan Zimpfer and sophomore Remy Swain.
In singles play, Lara Burgarello defeated Maura Trauernicht 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6, and Melissa Woods overcame Remy Swain 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5. At No. 4, Alyssa Rodriguez beat Nancy Wiegand 6-3, 6-1. Hala Sufi defeated Megan Zimpfer 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot, and at No. 2 Gretchen Haynor beat Katrina Lomidze 6-2, 6-4. At No. 1, Amy Walgenbach defeated Linda Jirouskova 6-2, 6-3.
The loss drops Miami to 1-2 on the season and sends the Boilermakers south with a 2-0 record.
