OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University women's swimming & diving team won 12-of-16 events to upend Toledo, 197-98, in a conference dual meet, Friday night at the Corwin M. Nixon Center. The Redhawks (8-1, 4-0 MAC) have now won their last eight meets since opening the season with a loss against Purdue, while they have stretched their conference winning streak to 21 meets, dating back to the 2000-01 season.
Only sophomore Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) won more than one event for Miami, sweeping both diving events, as 11 different RedHawks topped their events. Eberst dominated from both the one- and three-meter boards, tallying 261.60 points in the one-meter event to win by almost 53 points. In the three-meter event, Miami divers finished one through four, led by Eberst's 251.32 points. Freshman Katie Meister (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) took second place for the Red and White with 205.12 points.
For the meet, the RedHawks swept the top two places 11 times, including top three seven times and top four six times. Leading the way were upperclassmen, seniors Elizabeth Roble (Englewood, Colo./Kent) and Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and juniors Morgan Kautz (Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson), Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and Julie Madden (Canton, Ohio/Hawken). Roble won the 1000 freestyle, as Miranda, who is undefeated this season in the 1000, swam to a first-place finished in the 200 freestyle. Kautz and Madden won their first events of the season in the 50 and 500 freestyles, respectively, while Lamb won the 200 backstroke, one of her two MAC Championship events from a year ago.
Lamb earlier teamed with sophomore Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio), redshirt freshman Maggi Bulla (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) and freshman Sarah Baumert (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) to form the first-place 400 medley relay in the first event of the evening. Forster also took first in the 200 butterfly, pacing four RedHawks atop the field.
Sophomores Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Ellen Koch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and freshman Diana Zeleznikar (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) rounded out the event winners for Miami. Unger was victorious in th 100 breaststroke, while Koch won the 100 butterfly. Zeleznikar took first place in the 100 free for her first collegiate win.
Miami returns to action tomorrow, Jan. 24, against Eastern Michigan. The RedHawks and Eagles hit the pool at 1 p.m. for their conference meet. The Red and White is going for its 22nd consecutive MAC dual meet victory.
