OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Katie Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) won two events as Miami University's women's swimming & diving team picked up wins over Cincinnati and Kenyon College, Friday night at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. The RedHawks (7-1) have now won seven consecutive meets after upending the Bearcats, 182-112, and Ladies, 204-90.
Forster took first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events to lead Miami. In the 200 free, she hit the wall in 1:54.09, three-tenths of a second faster than freshman Ashley Seymour (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) in second place. Forster became the first swimmer this season to finish ahead of senior Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) in the 500 free, finishing in 5:00.11, just ahead of the veteran in second place at 5:00.22. Seymour was victorious in the 400 individual medley (4:28.29), while Miranda remained perfect in the 1000 free, pacing the field with a time of 10:21.22.
In the 200 backstroke junior Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and redshirt freshman Maggi Bulla (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) finished one and two in 200 back, as Lamb posted a time of 2:05.57. The duo also claimed second and third place, respectively, in the 100 back. Bulla teamed with sophomores Andrea Hocevar (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Hawken School), Christel Frantz (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) and Katie Unger (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) to take top honors in the final event of the evening, the 200 free relay. The quartet posted a time of 1:38.96 to win the relay.
The RedHawks were the only team to compete in diving events, as sophomore Christin Eberst (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) swept both the one- and three-meter events. Eberst, an NCAA-qualifier as a freshman, has now won her last 10 events, and 11-of-12.
Miami returns to conference action next weekend, hosting Toledo on Friday, Jan. 23. The RedHawks and Rockets hit the pool at 4 p.m. Miami has won its last 21 MAC meets, dating back to the 2001-02 season.
